I did and nothing, the wifi's still greyed! I am new with iphone and i think this problem is making you, apple, look like a low-quality manufacturer of phones, this is not possible, i have been looking all the internet for a solution and nothing! and you don't have a solution either, worst, if your phone is not under guarantee, you are lost because there is nothing you can do, unless you want to heat your device. this is garbage!!

I'm upset because I've done everything it says the article in mention and nothing, including the restoration. Now I will not have phone because if I take it to your service center, they would take at least a month to fix it. This is unacceptable! Plus, we are not talking about a cheap phone! (even thought, with this issue it seems more like a chinese phone! well, after last restore (3), the greyed out is gone, but it would not connect to any wifi network, please advise.

I have an iphone 4s with the same problem and tried all of the fixes online and nothing worked. Then I decided to try the fix with the blow dryer. I turned the phone off and covered the bottom 3/4 of the phone with the back facing up. I took a blow dryer and heated the top ( head phone port ) and the back side around the camera for about three minutes. The phone reached 205 degrees Fahrenheit. I let the phone cool down for an hour. When I turned it back on everything was working again : ). It's only been a day so far but I wanted to share with all of you who are as frustrated as I was.

GOOD LUCK

The reason that this worked is because the wifi greyed out issue is caused by micro fractures on the wifi/bluetooth antenna. Heating up the iPhone causes the metal to expand, temporarily reconnecting connections that were lost due to the microfractures. Heating it up is a temporary solution, and not a very recommended one, as it's can damage internal components even more then they already are

This has happened to me as we'll as my wifi switch being greyed out. I have contacted apple and initially was charged 20 for the "fix per item" and told them my issue. After talking with a supervisor I was told my phone had a internal hardware problem (the phone is 6 mo old after the original swapped out for bad screen) so essentially no warranty

And that the 6.1.3 was a fix to the earlier bug that greyed out the wifi. I did not have any problems prior to 6.1.3 and now have a short battery life and no wifi. I respectfully told them my side and all I got was "we are sorry". They did refund my 20$ and that's about it.

So they admitted that their software to fix a previous problem exacerbated "my hardware problem" that wasn't problem and that caused the new problem. Kinda funny but very dishonest and very very poor strategy. I certainly am not going to buy any more apple if this is the best they can do. I'm going to nurse my phone some since I have unlimited data and shop around. Kinda sad apple has turned into this. I have numerous apple devices and really don't want to switch over. Will give Genius Bar one chance before further decisions....

As stated many times:

If the WiFi (MAC) address is at 'N/A' in the settings, the Wifi and bluetooth IC is either dead or it needs reballing (i.e. resoldering), thus a physical intervention on the mainboard, which Apple does NOT offer, they only offer a replacement for a ridiculous price !!!

If you've got the 'N/A' address, no software/config change in the world will help !!

If the Wifi address is something else, you may have a chance that it's linked to a misconfiguration or a bug, and you might try a reset.

Good luck, and think of buying something else than an iPhone next time, this issue is just a pure scandal, because of both the poor quality of the 4s, and the way Apple faced this problem...

I have the same issue - my iPhone 4S Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options are grayed out after installing the updates. On the top of this, my battery life is very short. I am so disappointed that Apple doesn't want to support their loyal customers. After being tempted by Samsung's beautiful phone, I still bought iPhone, and now regret this - iPhone 4S screen is small, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are out, battery requires recharging all the time, a camera takes poor quality pictures, and I still have to wait for one year until I am eligible for upgrade...

Hairdryer worked for me too. I tried all, even called applecare. As my phone is just out of warranty they were going to charge me $35 to try to help but sounds like nothing they would have offered would work as i did it ALL right through restore. Guess its back to samsung for me and i will be sure to let everyone know about this experience. Ps while i have had the phone for a while as i was planning on giving it as a gift, i only activated it in july as my old samsung which i loved died, so my New iphone was screwed within 6 weeks of being turned on
