I would think you can add the PDF using iTunes. Yup. you can.
Connect the iOS device. Then launch iTunes. select the device and import the pdf onto the device. Now open iBooks on the iOS device, then touch the book collection button to select PDFs:
you will be able to select:
- Books
- Purchased Books
- PDFs
select PDFs
Wayne,
thanx, but this is just not working.
there is not a option to print the file (as a pdf) on my ipad. it will not show up on my imac.
the file comes up perfectly and is quite readable on ipad.
"help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/1.7/"

Norm,
I am afraid I do not understand to your response. The original question was how to view the pdf on your iPAD. To download the file your Mac, right click (or hold the control key while clicking), then select "Download Linked Files As…"
then save the file your computer, then import that file using iTunes onto your iPad. If that is not what you want to do, then please, restate the question.
Wayne,
if it is alright with you i will respond later as i have to leave for work now.
there is no internet nor cell phones, etc available where i work as it is a "required high security issue".
thanx

Wayne,
Help for iOS Numbers is a bunch of linked web pages. Not PDF.
Jerry
Wayne, Jerrod.
seems to be some confusion on my end.
this is the problem.
norm
Norm,
What is the URL of this manual?
Jerry
Jerry
all i can really find is
"http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/1.7/"
Norm
P.S. got to leave for work now.
Per above "there is no internet nor cell phones, etc available where i work as it is a "required high security issue".
i need to use the help manual at work.
Norm,
It will be tedious, but the only answer I can suggest is for you to print the help pages one by one to PDF. Make your own document from the website. I don't believe that you will find a simple way.
Jerry
Jerry,
i could do that and put them all together thru Aumator combining pdf files. Very simple to do.
Buttttttt ! I am not able to bring it up on the iMac. I keep on getting the message "safari cannot find the server". Probably because I am still using Snow Leopard.
There has to be a simpler way. I cannot believe Apple would set it up like this.
Surely someone at Apple, who has a modicum of intelligence, must realize that the internet is not available everywhere.
Thanx
Norm
Norm,
If you have Applecare, give them a call. Perhaps they can provide a disk containing the HTML code for the entire help function. I had no problem accessing the URL from my MBP running 10.8.4.
Jerry
Hello
I can open the said url:
http://help.apple.com/numbers/ipad/1.7/
in Firefox 17.0.7esr or Safari 5.0.2 under OSX 10.6.5 and click on the small icon at the top right corner of the web page, which then shows a popup menu saying:
Print Book Numbers Help
If I select "Numbers Help", it opens a normal print dialogue for Numbers Help document and I can print it as PDF file by selecting "Save as PDF…" menu item in "PDF" drop down menu at the bottom left corner of the dialogue. The resulting PDF file looks fine except that it has no indices (bookmarks).
I don't know why you cannot access the url by your iMac. Perhaps your iMac and iPad are organisation's properties and behind its firewall? If that is the case and they are only allowed to have restricted internet/intranet access, I'm afraid that the above method won't work for you.
Regards,
H
Norm,
Hiroto has it right - the printer icon offers the PDF book in a greatly less tedious way than I suggested 😉.
It's 6.7 MB in PDF format. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you the file by return e-mail.
Jerry
Hiroto,
after a long violent conversation with our local IT rep, i finally got our "super duper firewall" modified at our facility. it is amazing how some geeks thing they are the last word in what they are trying to accomplish. enough said!
thanx again for your help.
norm
Jerry
the file downloaded perfectly.
thank you very much, plus I got the security problem at work modified.
needless to say security at our facility is definitely a very high priority and required, but i shouldn't have to take it home with me, especially when the internet is not available at work.
thanx
