No boot device detected windows 7 installation OSX mountain lion

I followed all instructions in bootcamp created windows 7 install, created partition etc. But when i try to boot into installation my mac doesnt detect a boot drive. Is it because im using an external HDD 250gb ive used it before on my pc and it worked fine. i cant seem to solve the problem.
