What Do I Need?

I just got a MacBook and I want to know what items are necessary to survival. I know I want to get a messenger bag but are there perhaps covers similar to those of iPods that you stick over the screen to protect it? Is this necessary?
What else do you think is necessary for a MacBook?

MacBook, 2GHz, 512 RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.6), iPod 20GB 4G, iPod Nano 2GB

Honestly, I would think about getting this product to protect your investment:

http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/APPMCBF.html

Take a look at the abuse during the demos that will testify to the durablitiy of the product. This is also available for numerous other applications, too.
It does not cover the screen, but it will protect the shell and the palm rest area both of which will take the brunt of the daily grind.
I'm surprised more folks have not chimed in on helping you.
BTW, I am not affiliated with Shieldzone. Just a consumer.
Enjoy!

abi-

shieldzone is a good choice (but it does not cover the screen-only the outside case and palm rest).

or if you want style, you can go with http://www.macstyles.com/

or if you are hesitant on putting stickers on your macbook, you can go with various protective sleeves that are discussed at http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?t=295885

i'm not sure if the last link works...if not, ask about sleeves on this forum and people won't be hesitant on giving their favorites ๐Ÿ™‚

personally (i don't have the macbook yet but will very soon!), i am first gonna get a sleeve for my macbook (since i will be carrying it around in my backpack) and i might invest in the shieldzone (that only covers the bottom part since i will using my laptop conservatively-whatever that means ๐Ÿ™‚

hope this helps!

Thanks! I use a sleeve from a laptop bag and put it in my much more stylish Gap tote to protect it from my Bio books. My sister also bought me a Mighty Mouse, which I think is good when I'm at home.
I'm never crazy about external HDs, because then you have to lug them around everywhere.
But thanks, these are all good suggestions.
I do have to send my computer in during Christmas to get the plastic on the keyboard replaced. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ I don't think a slipcover would have helped, though.
Thanks!
Abi
