SMS Compose new text already contains text.

Each time my friend composes a new SMS, there is text from an earlier message already in the message body by default.

There are a few other similar threads with some interest - but as yet no comment by Apple.

Any ideas how to fix this without losing SMS history. All i can think is a full wipe and setup as a new iPhone.
