Try this...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.

When I login to another account on the same system, the menu is normal so a reïnstall would be a little overkill I would think? 😮
I edited by post. Please re read my first reply...
Thanks, I will restart the moment my backup is finished.
Ok...
If Carolyn's suggestion doesn't fix it,
Are you missing items in Menus or are you missing whole menus?
If whole menus, are they missing on the right or the left?
Unfortunally it did not work, the Apple menu is there but there are only a few entry's; 'About this Mac', Sleep mode, logout and Slumber mode, nothing more. 😟
Have you tried reinstalling OS X 10.8.x?

I think reinstalling is an overkill as another account on the same system does not have the thia problem, that account has a full normal Apple Menu like it should be. It is just some setting somewhere.
It's the only thing that I can suggest - a 'fresh' installation (as opposed to a 'clean' installation) is relatively painless and may solve the problem.

I know what you mean but come on, it is a user setting and I just do not want to loose my preferences of other stuf. I can just create another account and move my stuf to solve it. That would be quite simple to do but again I like to keep my current preferences.
I still hope it is something like removing a preference and a logout or reboot...
Since the Apple menu does show correcty from a different user account, there is something in your current account interfereing.
Do you see the correct Apple menu, when you boot into Safe Mode?

Safe Boot already tried (I should have mention that).
I will your second suggestion, thank you!
Yessss !
I moved in [homedir]/Library/Preferences all *.plist files to a temp folder and logged in under my account.
I had to go through the 'Log in with your iCloud account' as a new user and my desktop was default with the normal Apple Menu. Next I moved all plist files back and logged out and back in again. All was the same (as far I can tell now) but the Apple Menu is normal now.
Thanks for your help !! 🙂
Have a great weekend !
You are welcome. 🙂
So probably removing the preferences cleared the cached preferenced files, since you did not have to delete one single preference files - wow!
Have a great weekend too!
