HP ZR2740w not displaying proper resolution

I purchased the above monitor around a year ago and have beend using it with my circa 2007 powermac which has a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card with 250mb of VRAM without difficulties at full resolution (2560 x1440). Well... I bought a 2012 mac mini (the latest) AND a brand new macbook air and using either the HDMI-DVI or the Displayport-DVI on the mini or the displayport to DVI on the macbook air the highest resolution I can get is 1280 x 720. When I go to monitor prefs there are only two options 1280 x 720 and 800 x 600. HP says it is not their monitor and I have discussed with Apple tech support and they are supposed to get back with me within 4 days. With them I reset the PRAM (or whatever its called nowadays). I find it interesting that this behavior is occuring with both the new Air and the mini. Any ideas?

BTW I have a 23" cinema display that is working fine with both. (1920x1200).

Thanks,

Hello Chris,

Problem is the Mini HDMI port is limited to 1920*1200, And DVI needs Dual-link DVI...

Standard VRAM:512 MB*Maximum VRAM:768 MB*
Display Support:Dual DisplaysResolution Support:1920x1200*
2nd Display Support:Dual/Mirroring*2nd Max. Resolution:2560x1600*
Details:*This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with an optional Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter, which is compatible with the Thunderbolt port).

Thanks. But I am condused. what is the point in selling a displayport to DVI adapter, if what one really needs is a displayport to dual-dvi adpater? From the table above they do not reference a dual dvi adapter, but rather the two adapters I already have.

Also, the resoultion I am getting is far below the ones indicated in this table (1280 x 720) I have tried both the hdmi-> DVI and the thunderbolt to->DVI (which should give me 2560 x 1600 according to the table above.).

Back up all data.

Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard (command-C):

~/Library/Preferences/ByHost

In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A folder should open. If it does, look for a file with a long name that begins "com.apple.preference.displays2". Move the file to the Desktop. Log out, log back in, and try again to set the display resolution.

If I am correct, the spec's for that monitor say that it has both Dual-Link DVI and DisplayPort input.

Why are you are trying to use a standard MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter.

You need to use either a more expensive MiniDisplay Port to Dual-Link DVI adapter.

Or better yet a simple > Mini DisplayPort to Display Port cable

Here is another > Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable
