Can I use Time machine to reclaim a waste basket item?

Hope you can help as a precious file got flushed just by emptying the waste basket!

Apple TV, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

No. Like other backup software, Time Machine ignores anything in Trash which is what I assmue you means by the "waste basket item".

Hence the reason why nothing should be stored in Trash since it is not backed up.

Thanks Allen.

Your answer sparked a Time Machine reality in that the file was not always in the waste basket!

I went back to the week I flushed it and there it was in it former glory!
