just loaded itunes onto a new windows 8 pc and it won't open

just loaded itunes onto a new windows 8 pc and it won't open. keeps coming up with message "itunes has stopped working", then a box with "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I have to close the program and try again with the same result every time.
