My update software doesnt show any updates after is checks but im running on 10.5.8 and i know i need to update..

The last in the Mac OS X 10.5 series is 10.5.8 which you have. There is no further update for Leopard.
YOu need to go to the apple.com store and buy Snow Leopard 10.6, BUT make sure your Mac has the correct qualifications to run Snow Leopard before you buy.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:

but nobody knows for how long it will be available.

To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
