Black screen

I did a hard reboot while my iPad was updating several apps. I now have a black screen with the logo showing up from time to time. I tried to recover using iTunes but it will not connect. It did show up on file mgr long enough to back up pictures but then disconected. I tried to do a recovery by disconnecting the cable as instructed, but nothing showed. Not sure what to do next.
