Jul 7, 2013 4:16 PM in response to Eric Rootby bratman91,This should work but my experience and that of very many others in numerous threads in this forum is that it doesn't always. Some remote apps on an iPhone or iPad will wake an iMac on network access, others (always the ones you need!) don't. I set my iMac to never sleep because of this problem. If yhe OP cannot get his remote app to wake his iMac, maybe he could do the same.

Jul 7, 2013 4:27 PM in response to Jono Carmichaelby bratman91,★HelpfulI do not think that setting your iMac to never sleep uses much power (mine is so cool and silent that I can hardly tellnif power is on or off). I also have an external hard drive - this is a cheap Seagate but even this is designed to run continuously. I think that there is a chance that not sleeping may be even better for an iMac as thermal changes will be minimum and disks will not need to spin up and down. But stand by for someone who says differently!

Oct 18, 2014 2:15 PM in response to Jono Carmichaelby chr_wi,Your issue sounds like mine - my understanding last year while upgrading to 10.9 / iTunes 11: it is related to iTunes 11. Downgrading to iTunes 10.5 solves the issue reg standby / wakeup by remote App. So caused by iTunes facelift?
Now I'm struggeling towards 10.10 / iTunes 12 - happy to hear any observations.

Where is it advertised that Apple's iPhone Remote will wake a sleeping Mac?
I know that if you have a router that implements a "Sleep Proxy" that any attempt to access a Mac will have the router sending a Wake-On-Lan packet to the Mac which should get it to wake up:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonjour_Sleep_Proxy>
But my reading of the App Store description does not mention waking a sleeping Mac, and looking around inside the Remote app on my iPhone, I do not see anything that says it will wake a sleeping Mac.
