iphoto message "your photo library is damaged or unreadable

Hi.

I tried to open my iphoto yesterday and received the following message:

"Your phpto library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup"

What does this mean and how do I proceed?

Please tell me I haven't lost all of the photos of my little daughter!

I have an imac 8,1 Intel Core 2 Duo - if that helps..?

I am not the keenest with technology and appreciate any help!

Thanks!

It means what it said, that you have to restore from your back-up. I hope you have been backing up, if not well I hate to say it but you might be about to learn a very painful lesson on why backing up your computer is something that is critical, not something that should be done but something that must be done.

You can try to fix your library though, Apple explains how in Rebuilding the iPhoto library
