MacBook Pro, VMWare Fusion and Windows 8. Able to connect to internet from Mac but not from Windows 8.

I installed VMWare Fusion and Windows 8 on top of that in MacBook Pro. For a few weeks I was able to connect to internet using Wifi either from Mac or from Windows. But I must have uninstalled something by mistake and now even though I can connect to internet from Mac, I can't connect from Windows 8.

Windows is unable to see the WiFi device.

Sorry, this did not solve. I looked back at my notes. I now know what caused this. I wanted to eject a flash drive that I had borrowed from Windows session. Since I was working with a new MacBook and setting it up, I was not familiar with various drives and I think I "ejected" the WiFi card. As such Windows lost internet connetion but Mac continued to work (had internet connection).

How do I "un-eject" the WiFi card that Windows can see. Corrently Windows does not even see a WiFi option in Network connections. It does see Ethernet and Bluetooth.

Thanks for you help.

I don't use WiFi (I like my internet over a wire or optical cable), but are you saying that in Fusion's Settings/Network Adapter, Wi-Fi doesn't appear? Does it appear in the Mac's System Preferences in the Network panel?

First thing I'd do is shut down Windows, shut down and reboot the Mac, and check to see if Wi-Fi is active in the Mac's Network preferences. It should be since you've said your Mac is successfully using it. Then, in Fusion Settings, does the it appear in the Network Adapter list? For that matter, did you have it set up and used in the Bridged Networking list? If so, especially if it's not there now, why not just pick Share with my Mac, and leave it at that? If a Bridged Network is, for some reason necessary, have you tried Add Device... to see if the Wi-Fi card shows up, and, if so, adding it there?

SOLUTION! 😎

Hi there, had this problem recently and your post led me to investigate it even more and not ignore and finally managed to find a solution. and its a simple one believe it or not. Here's what you do:

1) From your mac interface (while windows 8 is running), right click on the VMware Fusion icon and select the option Virtual Machine Library.

2) A new window should show, showing you the windows 8 you are currently running and what is displayed there at the moment. Right click on the Windows 8 screen and select the option Settings.

3) 3 rows of options will show, in the second row (named: Removable Devices), select Network Adapter.

4) Now you should be able to see the source of which your Windows 8 takes interenet. Mine was taking internet by sharing with my mac. so the option "Share with My Mac" was ticked. I did change that to "Wi-Fi" by ticking that option from the list "Bridged Networking" just under "Share with my Mac".

It would probably require administrative power to change that, insert your password and make sure the option Wi-Fi is ticked and then simply close the window.

Go back and launch Windows 8, your internet should be working fine. Good luck.
