some chart types cannot be combined in powerpoint

I cannot create charts in powerpoint. It states that "some charts cannot be combined with others". I've seen a similar problem posted about Excel, but I'm not using Excel and don't have it open. Is there a something that can be done to resolve this issue in powerpoint?
