Won't Work
I tried to do this on my iPhone 4, but when I swipe, the hide button doesn't work. Do I need a specific update or something?

Specifically in the note near the end of the document:
Note: If the item you are unhiding is not already downloaded or installed on your device, it will begin downloading automatically. You currently cannot hide purchases on devices using iOS 6.
