Q: remove photos from photo stream

I've filled my new MacBook Air with photos, and want to move them to an external hard drive. How can I move my photo stream pics and then delete them?

How are you viewing the Photo Stream on your MBA? In iPhoto or Aperture?

To move the Photo Stream photos to an external drive,

    • open your photo library in iPhoto or Aperture,
    • then select the Photo Stream in the "Web" section of the Source list,
    • select the photos that you want to move,
    • and use the command "File > Export"; select a folder on your external drive to store the exported image files.

If you have set the Photo Stream to "Auto import" in the Preferences, you could do the same from the monthly events/projects, that the Photo Stream creates when importing automatically.

After exporting the external HD, delete the photos from the Stream, see:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5125

On a Mac using iPhoto 9.2.2 or later, or Aperture 3.2.3 or later:

    1. Select a photo or group of photos from the Photo Stream (or My Photo Stream) view in iPhoto or Aperture.
    2. Press the Delete key.
    3. Click Delete.
