Help!! video clips won't play in slide show

Does the fact that the video clips do play in the viewer but not in the slideshow indicate that the video format is supported by Aperture?

Is it possible that some formats are supported in the viewer but not in a slideshow?

What happened since last yoear? Have you reinstalled the system at some point? Maybe you had last year additional video codecs installed? Flip4Mac, Perian?

Do your videos play in QuickTime Player, when your export them to the DeskTop?

Are your videos iPhone videos? In that case you may have a problem with

Also, if you recently run a cleaner utility that cleared the caches, you now may have a missing com.apple.xpchelper.cache in /System/Library/Caches .

This has been known to cause videos from stopping to play. This file will only be recreated by reinstalling MacOS X, but you can force its recreation by a Terminal command. See:

Are you tyring to play a slideshow you created last year or are you trying to play it from within Aperture?

Just to be sure I tried it here with Aperture 3.4.5 on OS 10.8.4 and the videos played in the slide show. I tried with both managed and referenced videos.

Have you tried running the Aperture library first aid procedures on the library? Try a library repair and see if that helps.

If that doesn't help I would suggest making a new slide show, adding a few videos and trying it. If that still fails make a new empty library add a few videos, make a slideshow and see what happens.

Finally if you still have problems make a new user on your system, run Aperture on a new library as that user and try making a slideshow.

Hopefully we can narrow down where the problem is following these steps.

The video files are regular QT 720 hd files. Actually, they were downsized to 720 from 1080 using Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro X in order to reduce system load during playback. Also, a 720 title was made using Motion. They all don't work any more. They play just fine in QT and in the Aperture browser when I double click them. It is in the slide show they don't play.

Your downsizing may be the problem. Aperture does support many video formats, but not all frame rates and and resolutions, see this article for supported frame rates and sizes:

It may be possible. I think, the slideshow makes efficient use of the graphics cards to render the transitions and effects, and has to do different processing than the Viewer. The Viewer can simply be using QuickTime.

I just found an avi, that displays well in the Browser, but in the Slideshow I only see the still image.
