AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (A1521) iPhone Issue

I am having a similar problem. iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 and 6th gen AirPort Extreme running 7.7.1. The iPhone will initially connect ok, but after some time (random and varied) although the wifi bars are still shown, and it says it's connected to the network, I have no internet and no network connection. Monitoring the AirPort from another device, it does list the iPhone as a wireless client. Turning off WiFi on the phone and turning it back on fixes the problem. I do not have this problem with any other device including iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and 3 and MacBook Pro 2012.

I've done a power cycle on the router at least twice and reset network setting on the phone twice and this problem persists.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd be interested in knowing what to try.

Same issue here. It's agonizing. I even had my iPhone 5 replaced because of the purple spots issue on the camera... Even that didn't work. The wifi speed is slow and unstable. The only temporary fix I've found is turning wifi off/on and resetting network settings.

Same issue here. 2 Iphone 5's, 1 Ipad 3 and 1 Ipad 4 all have latest software. New airport extreme with 7.7.1 software. All drop wifi randomly...at least once a day. It is very frustrating. Update needed soon or will return and go back to a reliable linksys.

Read this please, before assuming your AirPort Extreme is broken. The links at the end will likely resolve your issues. First try to rollback your AirPort's firmware to 6.1.1, which should restore your Internet connectivity. If it does, but you'd rather have the most recent upgrade available, follow the steps given in the following links, 6.1.3 should work fine for you then.

After numerous attempts by apple IT reps to persuade me that my modem was somehow the cause of my AirPort Extreme broadcasted WiFi network suddenly losing connectivity after the 6.1.3update, I found the truth that helped me to correct my own problem, and successfully use 6.1.3 rather than the rolled back version 6.1 i had been forced to resort to.

If rolling back your Airport's firmware fixes your connectivity issue, or your dns server has been erased by the update to 6.1.3, I speculate that these links will help you out greatly.

It turned out, that this was A KNOWN ISSUE to Apple! With an actual fix Published by Apple themselves! They've just got it hidden away because they must have wanted to drive me to the brink of insanity. . Luckily for Apple I worked with an amazing rep *(Thelma) who at least acted as if she didn't think I was a crazy person. I found the fix on my own after 16 grueling, redundant and fruitless, hours of troubleshooting (time wasting) with "senior" Apple techs.

Let me tell you, 'I told you so' has never sounded so sweet. (Thelma) was ****** that no one in the company bothered to fill her in on this issue or solution and had her support send me a new AirPort just before I discovered the fix. After the discovery, she told me not to bother sending either back, and apologized for the run around that took up weeks of my life.

For what it's worth... I went into the iPhone, selected the network, and selected "Forget this network". Restarted the phone, reconnected to the network and the problem has not occured since. This could have fixed it, or it may have been some other intermittant problem that just went away.

Of course now that I posted this, it will start happening again 😉

I was having this problem as well and figured it was a config issue. Under the Wireless options, I changed the "automatic" setting for the 2.4 and 5Ghz channels to something random (7 and 157 respectively in case it matters), and I haven't had any issues for a few weeks now. Until now it was a very regular issue and very frustrating.

So am thinking of getting the new AirPort Extreme (AC version), and just checking to see if it has any issues and maybe similar to my current 5th Generation which has been resolved by downgrading the firmware from the current, 7.6.3 back to 7.6.1 which resolves issues of dropping connection etc.

Is this the same issue seen here with your current New Airport Extremes!? And if so, can you drop the firmware to 7.6.1 or lower config to resolve the issue!?

I am glad to have found this thread, as I too have been having connectivity issues with my AEac (A1521). I've seen this happen across all of our devices connected to the WiFi, so I know it's not iPhone 5 specific.

It seems that the firmware downgrade is the solution. However, I upgraded the firmware to 7.7.1 first thing right out of the box before I configured any other settings. Now that I'm attempting to downgrade to the version that was factory installed (7.7.0 ??), I am not seeing that as an option, either on my Mac or iPhone. There doesn't seem to be a previous version saved anywhere.

Is there a way to obtain archived firmware versions somewhere through the Apple site? (I'm only seeing instructions on how to get the newest version by downloading via AirPort Utility.) If not, is there someone in the community that can post their original version (which apparently can be located in

~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware)?

This thread confirms some behavior I've been seeing which leads me to think these are firmware bugs. Update, please, Apple!
