Wrong avatar appears on my macs' iMessage

Hi,

On both my iMac and MBP running the latest updates of Mountain Lion, when using iMessage my avatar is the default one (rugby ball). Yet in both my User Prefs and iCloud Prefs, another one (the correct one) is registered. If I send a iMessage from my iPhone to my mac, I appear with the correct avatar, but my answers (from the mac to the iPhone) are sent by the rugby ball.

I hope I'm making myself clear, and that you guys will have a solution, thanks!

Hi,

If you only set up the iMessages account then it should pick up the Pic from the My Card entry in the Contacts app (formerly the Address Book).

This pic is in turn taken from the System Preferences > Users And Groups > Your account > pic.

However after this initial set up pics for each can be changed.

The exception is the Messages app itself and what Pic you may have chosen for your Buddy Pic.

The iMessages Account will tend to use this first if you have AIM, Jabber or Yahoo accounts set up.

To state this another way.
When you set up an Account on the Mac (System Preferences > Users and Groups) you have to chose a Login pic.

When you add your Name and email and other info then the Address Card is set up but initially pulls the Users pic as the associated pic.

If then you set up Messages with AIM or Jabber or Yahoo IDs and Screen Names it will as first choice pick the Address Book/Contacts app Pic - which or course is the Login pic.

Each place then can change the pic it uses.

Hi,

So like my Top hat pic your iPhone has the correct pic from it's Contacts List ?

Is this Contacts List synced from your Mac via iCloud ?

In the Contacts App on the Mac does the My Card point to your Details ?

If the My Card is your details does it have the same Pic that the iPhone is using ?

Next, with the Messages app Open go to Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts and Enable the Bonjour Account.

Go to the Window Menu and use the Buddies item.

The Buddy list that appears is actually a combo one but it is likely to list Bonjour at the top if there are no other accounts (AIM, Jabber or Yahoo types).

What Pic does this have ?

This pic show the Pic I use in Messages on this iMac and also on my G4 listed below and my MacBook Pro.

If you turned this ON before and changed the Pic here it is likely to be the pic in question.

If you Click the Buddy Pic it will bring up the Change options.

"Defaults" are the set with the rugby ball in it. This one also calls on the iChat icons sets as well.

"Recents" are the ones in the Users and Groups > your account AND the Contacts app > My Card recents as well as any old 'iChat Style" ones linked to any Buddy list (including the Bonjour one)

"Faces" is from iPhoto if you have set any Faces.

"Camera" speaks for itself and is for taking a SnapShot.

Whatever pic is here change it to the one you want.

Does the Messages iMessages account now use the "right" pic ?
