Q: I purchased additional storage on my iPad and it shows I have 14.6 GB still available.  However when I went to add an app it said I didn't have enough storage.  What did I do wrong?

I have reviewed the storage upgrades and downgrades .  I am a new MAC user so maybe I am confused.  Stilll do not understand all this availability and yet cnnot download a certain app because it says I havent enough storage.

    The message is referring to Local Storage on your Device... Not iCloud storage.

    You cannot add storage to any iOS device over what it came with.  Storage on the device refers to the solid state storage installed in it - for an iPad, 16,32, 64 or 128GB

    iCloud is online storage, provided by Apple on their remote servers.  You can use it to store data online, synchronized some data across multiple devices and so forth, but it has nothing to do with what fits on your device, or what your device can run an App in.

     

    Go into settings -> General -> Usage and see how much storage, on your iPad itself, you are using and how much is available.

    Ok. I understand now the difference between my device and the icloud.  My device reads 0 bytes available.  How do I obtain more space or delete or transfer things to the cloud?

    All your purchased content from the iTunes or App store does not count towards your iCloud use, but is always available for redownload from the store (Apple has those apps on the store servers anyway, so all they do is keep track of your account's purchases - no need for you to store the apps online).  So you can delete any apps you no longer use to free up space.

     

    If you have not been syncing photo's to your computer regularly, you should do an iTunes backup and move those into your photo storage program on your computer for safekeeping, and to clear out your camera roll.

    You need to Delete content from your Device.
