Thanks for the question. If you are using iCloud for your calendars, you can invite other iCloud users to your events. The invitee will receive a notification via the Calendar application, in which they can Accept or Decline attendance:

If the above is not a good solution, you could set up an event to have an email alert sent to a specified address. However, this will only work for the email accounts that you have set up in your contact card (wouldn't be a solution for inviting others):
