How do I transfer the music on my iPod to a new computer?

I've had a Macbook Pro since 2008 and my iTunes library is currently on that computer. I just got a new iMac and want to upload my library to this new computer. I tried just plugging in my iPod and hitting "sync", but that doesn't seem to work. Help!
