Q: Is there a way to avoid additional international charges through my carrier since the Iphone 5 is an international phone when I travel to the UK?

I'm currently a student and I will be studying abroad for about a year in the UK before I move there next fall.  I was wondering though, since the Iphone 5 is an international phone and from what I understand that means - it has the capabilities of using international signals, that being said when I go over seas will I still be charged from Sprint for international fees even though its using an international signal?

I guess I'm a bit confused on how the whole 'international' aspect works.

Any info is much abliged, thank you.

The iPhone can be used with different carrier worldwide. If you keep the Sprint SIM card and plan while you're in Europe, you could be charged for international usage thorugh Sprint. The only way to avoid this is to never use cellular data while in Europe and communicate use iMessage and FaceTime while connected to Wi-Fi or to purchase a plan thru a European carrier

If you have been a Sprint customer for 6 months they can set up an international plan for you where you can use a partner microSIM in the UK. You need to talk to them to get the details.

But since your long-term plan is to move to the UK, and you would have no warranty coverage on your Sprint phone in the UK, a better plan would be to sell it before you leave and purchase an iPhone in the UK.
