Restoring wifi preferred networks after PRAM reset

In trying to solve a different problem, I reset PRAM and hence, I lost my Preferred Networks for wireless, which had been built up over years, and were quite useful.

I had a backup about a week old, so assumed I could transfer the file com.apple.airport.preferences.plist found in the Library/Preferences/System Configuration folder.

But after replacing the new com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file with my backup copy, my preferred networks still did not show up.

I can open the plist file and it shows all of the old network wifi connections. So, I'm not sure if I need to transfer something else as well to restore the previous settings?

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
