migrating library

I'm in the process of migrating files from an old G4 to a new Macbook Pro. I followed instructions online to migrate my iTunes library and I basically just copied the iTunes folder from the ~/music folder and inserted it in the new ~/music folder. The folder path appears to be correct when I access the Advanced panel under Preferences and the option to Keep iTunes Media folder organized is selected. I can't get my songs to appear on the iTunes screen. The songs are available in the iTunes folder and I can play each song when selected but for some reason, iTunes won't display them on the screen. Any ideas?
