Q: is anyone else seeing that their mac is running slowing?

Google Chrome is notorious for slowing down your computer, especially if you load it with all the extentions.   Many of their extentions do nothing more than absorb memory with little real benefit.   Try getting rid of Chrome and using Safari and Firefox.

Unistall all add-ons then uninstall/reinstall Chrome

Google root level auto-updater: to uninstall that (provided you have no Google software on the machine)

There is a issue with installed Flahs and the Chrome based version of Flash

You have another issue.

If you use TimeMachine or a bootable clone software like Carbon Copy Cloner etc., it will backup the Security Update as it does everything.

If you backup just users files folders (Music, Pictures, Movies etc) to a regular external drive as outlined in #9 Step, then disconnect it, then proceed through the Steps 1-whatever fixes your problem.

I'm not experiencing any problems with 10.6.8 with the updated security patch on my machine here, nor is there any widespread complaints on the boards, so I'm thinking it's outdated software, corrupted OS X or some other issue.

I am having the same type of issues - since the 2013-003 update my computer overall has gone into unresponsive land.  Not just Chrome, but is seems to be all applications.   I was working for a few hours with no issues, did the update and since i came back up after the install - nothing has worked well at all.
