Two ways to customize your Profile picture for your user account

1) You can simply drag an image file of your choosing onto the picture itself in system preferences > accounts > user

2) You can add an image file to the default folder where user account pictures are stored : /library/user pictures

A few notes on the second option. The /library folder is hidden by default. To access it through finder click shift + command + g and enter the path /Library/User Pictures in the pop up window.

System Preferences - Users & Groups - click the current profile image - click 'recents' in the sidebar & drag an image to the grid... or click 'camera' in the sidebar & take a new one.

Select unwanted ones & press delete or edit menu - cut to remove them.

Use the edit button by 'cancel' to zoom in/out & move the visible area of your chosen image.
