Does having stolen iphone blacklisted prevent thieves access personal data on iphone.

Hi

my iphone was lost/stolen when on holiday in France. I have had it blacklisted(almost immediately) but unsure how much protection this gives me in terms of access theives would have to personal data from my phone i.e. access to emails, notes etc. Also, how much protection (if any) would my 4 digit PIN have given me again in terms of someone getting into my phone and accessing my personal data?

iPhone 4S

It gives you zero protection.

Blacklisting simply informs cell phone companies it is stolen and ashould prevent it from being used on a cell network.

If the thief has the cell phone, he has access to all data on it.

No. Having it blacklisted only prevents whoever has it from activating or using it on that cellular network.

Your pin will prevent them from accessing your personal data provided they don't guess what the pin is.

Most iPhone thieves couldn't care less about your data. They want to sell the phone for $$, or keep it for themselves.

If you did not have a PIN on the phone, then all of your data is accessible to whoever has the phone. Change your passwords immediately.

If they do not have the PIN, they won't be able to get into the phone to my knowledge. A lot of times, when thieves steal an iPhone, they force the phone into recovery mode and then set up as new, in turn erasing all the content. The data on the phone, unless in extremely capable hands, should be safe from capture. And having the phone blacklisted, they won't be able to use it either

If they really want to get into it, it will take them about 30 seconds, even without the PIN.

Don't need to be "extremely capable" at all. Just need an app on their computer.

But as suggested, most will simply erase it and sell the iPhone.
