iPhone 5 silent power button when clicked?

I recently got my iphone 5 from a Verizon wireless and didn't notice at first, but after having the phone after a few days I discovered this. When I click the sleep button there is no noise(or a very faint one)when I press it. I was curious if other people were having the same "issue" or it is normal for this.

Yes, this works for me as well. I use it to silence alarms when the phone is locked. But occationally, as happened today at the Library, I hit the button to silence an alarm and it cranks up the volume to highest. And a repeated press did nothing. I was kinda embarrassed. Usually I have my earphones in and it hurts my ears. This time it blasted out for all to hear. So, yes it works, but sometimes it is buggy.
