What happens if you try to open iPhoto? Do you get an error message or just nothing happens?

Try rebuilding your iPhoto library using the instructions in this Apple article.

I installed the iLife disc, then hit both the option and command keys with the iphoto icon and finally got
the prompt to finish the install.
