Adding new free apps to a set of supervised iPads

Our school has 2 sets of iPads. In preparing for next academic year, I downloaded additional free apps through iTunes. However I get an error when trying to add the apps to Configurator: "unable to import app . . the app's identifier is missing"

Hi, I have just done the same but the reason became clear. My MACmini had iMovie installed on it so when I went into configurator, selected Supervise and tried to add the the app using the + button I forgot to switch the drop down in the middle top of the screen to "Mobile Applications" which is where the apps for the iPad are stored. I was still using "Applications" on that drop down. You should be selecting an ****.ipa file when you select the app.
