I just ordered a Macbook Pro 15inch non retina with these specs: i7 2.3ghz, 8gb ram, geforce 650m with 512mb. Will this setup be enough to run Dota2 on max?

Not sure about max, but should be able to run it. My biggest concern with your machine is that the dedicated card only comes with 512MB instead of 1GB.

Looked at some screenshots and it's not 3D intensive/immersed, so I would say your good to go on that or a higher spec-ed video card.

I recently bought a late 2013 iMac, souped up to the max, it can play dota2 with max settings but still laggy 😟.

But if I run in windows 7, in the same machine, dota 2 plays very smooth with all graphics settings max out! no lagg, smooth textures, high fps... everything a mac user (gamer) would wish to run the same performance on osX 😟.. and thinking that open GL is way better that direct X...
