The Mac cannot connect to Windows Based Computer

I'm trying to connect to my work computer with my macbook pro at home. This involves creating a VPN to get onto the network at the office, and this seems to be working properly. When I launch Remote Desktop Connection to connect to my computer I get this message:

The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer.

This problem can occur if:

• The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections.

• The Windows-based computer is not turned on.

• The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.

Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator.

My VPN (Cisco IPSec) has connected but RDP client/CoRd/JumpStart are not able to connecting to my work terminal(IP Address).

My Mac iOS10.7.5 and work terminal OS is Windows 7 Professional 64Bit

Please let me know the solutions.

Thanks,

Israel Pradeep.

Not completely sure but I think you need to first direct the RDC over the VPN and then to the computers IP address. Or to the remote internet IP address of the router at the office.

It would be wise to talk to the work IT department for proper instructions and to setup the work router to direct the incoming connection to your work computer. Without the router setup properly to direct the connection to your work computers IP address you will never connect to it.

You have connected from your Work Computer to your Home computer across the internet or from the Mac when it is connected to your Home LAN? Two/Three Totally different things. I can connect from my work place to my home network because I have setup my router to direct the incoming connection to the particular computer in my home. But I can't connect from home to my work computer because I never bothered to setup the work router to allow and direct the connection to my work computer. I can connect from any computer in my home to any other computer in my home across my home LAN.

Thank you LowLuster.

I have successfully connecting by my home laptops like windows XP and Win7 OS. that means my IT dept has properly setting up the work terminal. so the problem is from Mac OS 10.7.5 or RDC client.

are there any network firelwalls still blocking my vpn.
