Logic 9 slow and sluggish

a) I've been using Logic for a number of years and know the sw pretty well.

b) I have an i7 2.6 mbp with 16 gig RAM, Samsung pro SSD Drive and a 7200rpm hitachi(oem) in the optical bay

c) I'm running a logic project off of the hitachi with all the media stored on that drive

d) I've tested the drive speed and it checks out consistently at over 110mbps and linked at 3mbp shown in sys info

I'm doing sound/music work on a long film.

PROBLEM:

undo takes just under a minute of beachball!!

many other functions are slow as well but some other functions are relatively normal.

undo levels at 10

save last five versions

I tried saving the movie in streaming DV but the problem persists as before.
