A movie I purchased on iTunes won't copy to my iPod. What should I do?

I have a 30 GB iPod. I think it's a 5th Generation. I haven't had any issues with this in the past but with this movie I haven't been able to get it onto my iPod from iTunes. I bought a DVD that came with a digital version so I went through the process to download it with iTunes. That all went okay. I currently have 5 movies on iTunes totalling about 10 GB. I checked in the iTunes Store to see how large the file was and it's just over 4 GB. My iPod has 9 GB of free space so I don't think that should be an issue. I usually automatically sync my iPod so I tried that and the songs I purchased got copied but the movie didn't. When that didn't seem to work, I tried to do it manually. I also thought maybe I hadn't allowed enough time the first time around so I left my computer on all night just to make sure it had enough time. There's no file I know of on iTunes that takes anywhere near that long to copy. That didn't work either. What should I do? Should I restore my iPod to the factory settings?

iPod classic, Windows 7, iTunes version 11.0.4.4

Hey Guchman,

Thanks for the question. It may be possible that the movie is not compatible with your iPod classic.. The large file type leads me to believe it might be the HD version, which would not be compatible with your iPod. See the following article for more information:

I've copied HD stuff to my iPod before and it hasn't been a problem. Those might have been TV shows though so it's possible that the problem is the fact that it's an HD movie. I also haven't gotten a pop-up or anything telling me that the movie didn't copy. It just doesn't go. Would I have to pay for the SD version or is it possible for me to get that for free since I already paid for the movie?

Hey Guchman,

Here is the information on how to download the SD version of a movie from your purchase history:

Syncing video to iPhone 3G or earlier, iPod touch (1st or 2nd generation), iPod classic, iPod 5th generation, or iPod nano (3rd, 4th, or 5th generation)

1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. You can download the latest version for free here.

2. Open iTunes on your computer.

3. From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.

4. Navigate to your Purchased page. Find it by clicking Movies or TV Shows from the top navigation bar in the iTunes Store, and then click Purchased from "QUICK LINKS" in the iTunes Store.

5. Choose the appropriate video type: Movies or TV Shows.

6. In the lower-right corner of the screen, deselect the box next to "Download HD When Available."

7. Search for the desired video and click the download button.

8. This should download the standard definition version to your computer so you can sync to your device.
