Connecting JVC GR DVL 150 to MacBook Pro

Help please someone

I have an old JVC GR DVL 150 video camera

I have the appropriate iEEE 1394 Data transfer lead
However I believe I may need software

I have tried iDVD but it's not picking up the camera (though it's on in playback/VCR mode and connected to Mac laptop)

Any one know how, if at all I can make this connection work and if so how (without having to spend a fortune!)

(1) Your OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1) is out of date.

Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then download and apply the latest Combo Update. For your Mac OS, the current Combo is at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659.

Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

(2) Use iMovie to import (and edit if desired) your old 150's video clips: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2144

You can transfer the files to iDVD if desired after you have used iMovie to save the files on your Mac.

(3) The USB cable included with your camcorder lets you transfer still images, but NOT your videotape clips.

To transfer your captured videotaped clips to your Mac, connect your GR-DVL150 mini DV tape camcorder via Firewire (also called iLink or iEEE1394). If you do not have the correct Firewire cables or adapters, see your local computer or electronics store for help.
