Colleagues at work who use Final Cut Pro tell me I should be able to open mp4 video files. When I try I get a notice on my desktop saying "a required codec is not available" .
When I then look at 'Additional media format support to QuickTime', I don't see mp4 files mentioned. My 4 year old iMac has OS 10.7.5
Maybe I have to buy Final Cut Pro as I am thinking of learning to do editing too.

Perhaps like it says, there are parts of the file that have other codecs used, so to play it back, use the free VLC player instead.

ds store Thanks for taking trouble to reply. The link you sent to install offers several options to do with 32 bit or 64 bit etc. Would you know which option is best for me?
