volume cap and format

I live in Europe and in order to get rid of volume capped iPods I bought one in the USA which I absolutely love. The iPod i HFS+ formatted but since I'd like to use it also on a Windows laptop I need to reformat it. Will this remove the USA firmware and yield me a volume capped one ???
