Looking to buy a used iPad, but need to know if there is a way to determine if sale is legitimate or if unit has been reported lost or stolen.

Thank you. I'm hesitant to buy used for fear of that. Recently my daughter had her iPhone stolen, so I know how easy it is and how hard.
I'm not sure about everyone else, but every Apple product I've ever bought I have kept the reciept for. That goes for all my electronics and valuables. I keep them for many reasons, one of them being to PROVE that it is my product in case someone tries to steal it.
Ask for a reciept. If one can't be provided then I would remain hesitant.
Ask the seller for the iPad's serial number. Then call your local police dept to see if they have it on the list of stolen iPads.
