Where did you purchase the phone? Is it unlocked? You say it worked since you had it on Koodo? Today it displayed no service, then asked for a carrier update, and after the update it is still not working? You say you cannot text or use data. Have you contacted the carrier to see if there is a problem with your account? Is turning it to airplane mode the only thing you have done? Next step in user troubleshooting is a reset, holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if it works. If not, then a restore, first from a backup and if necessary as a new device. Prior to the restore, which can delete data, make sure you have backed your device up, have synced calendar and contacts to a supported application on the computer or iCloud, imported photos. Then you can perform the restores. If it still doesn't work after that and the carrier says everything is okay on their end, then you need to contact Apple or your authorized Apple service representative for service.

I don't remember the name of where I purchased it my friends have bought phones from the same place and there's work fine. I don't know what you mean is it unlocked. I had it with koodo since I got it then it asked me 3 months or so after I got it if I wanted to update carriers I still had service I accidentally clicked yes. Than it said no service. I have tried airplane mode on and off nothing I have tried to restart it I don't know how to I haven't contacted the carrier yet. I have saved my phone stuff on iTunes I just don't know how to restore it to factory settings. Also if i reset it will I loose the apps and have it look empty like when I originally got it or will it still have the apps there.

A reset does not result in the loss of any data. See this support document about a reset http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430. You hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should restart.

A restore, will result in the loss of data. You can restore from a backup, or you can restore as a new device. Restore as a new only if the restore from a backup does not result in the device working correctly. See this support document about doing a restore. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414

The only issue that I can see is if the device was hacked to work on this particular network. If that is the case, if you update the software, it could lock the device back to the original carrier it was locked to.

I still think you should contact the carrier and ask them if there are problems with your account.
