Mid- 2010 Macbook - Turns off when the lid is closed.

As the title states instead of sleeping like it should be the computer will completely shut off. It used to just hibernate and I would get that loading bar and then everything would open again but now it's shutting down. The LED on the front doesn't pulse it will slowly dull until it's out and the computer is shutoff. I've reset SMC and NVRAM multiple times to no avail. I've changed my hibernatemode to 3 via terminal which is supposed to make it sleep when the lid is closed but nothing is working and the problem as only seemed to get worse. (This is not an MBP just a normal macbook.)
