    Hi,

The Restore process should be like the old Archive and Install and not touch other installed apps you have.

IF your router has it I would enable UPnP.

It allows multiple computers to use the same ports (Port Forwarding does not).

This would solve the issue of the the app giving out strange logs.

The issue about saving the History  may possibly be related to the thing about when the windows are opened but it is unlikely.

There were not changes to  Messages (app) itself in OS X 10.8.4 but there were changes to things that related to the displaying of iMessages in the right order (they don't always do so when syncing iPhone conversations)

This might have a small link to the History being saved issue you are having.

After that I would drag the whole of the com.apple.*.plists to the desktop  (leaving only the ones belonging to non Apple Apps in the Preferences folder).

I would then return half of them (make sure Mail and Address Book ones are early returnees) and test the apps.

This will create newer versions in some cases.

With each success (or not) you should return another half of those on the Desktop and repeat until all have been returned.

This way you will be able to spot when a returned .plist suddenly creates a problem.

It is long winded especially if the suspect item is in one of the early larger moves (you will have to split these down to smaller groups of .plists)

    Hey there,

I moved all com.apple.* files from ~/Users/xxxxxxx/Library/Preferences/ to a folder on the desktop.

Also moved all ~/Users/xxxxxxx/Library/Preferences/ByHost as well as /Library/Preferences/com.apple.* to the desktop.

    Still no success.

BTW, I dont have any other Apple products in order to sync so that kind of narrows down the culprit to this machine.

A little more information. Sometimes, Messages will even lose history when it is still opened up. It will give me a timestamp on the first message received, so presumably the error lies on that same minute of the hour. The "refresh" will happen in random times, on each of the contacts I am talking with. I have pasted below the Console Output of that specific Minute.

    Hi,

You will notice that I said move All the  com.apple........plists  (as in the ones for Mail, the Address Book and everything not just the iChat/Messages ones.

As you will see by the Log you posted the com.apple.domain.messages is actually linked in to many other actions.

The most common of which seems to be the Sleep function.

I.e all the System might be involved and you will need to tackle it in Halves if you have no way to do a full Restore.

Thats what I did. I moved ALL com.apple.xxxxxx.plist from both user library and root library to the desktop.

    It didn't do a thing.

    HI,

    My mistake.

I could have sworn it said "I removed all the com.apple.iChat.*.plists" when you posted earlier.

Using any app would have recreated the "missing" .plists for that app.

I was then suggesting putting back 1/2 of Original .plists (replacing any that had been recreated) and then trying various things again.

If the issue is caused by a User Setting (Stored in those .plists) the issue should only come back when the next half of the .plist are returned to the Preferences folder.

If the issue appears to be still there when you return the first half then you have to work through those more diligently.

Only when you are sure that none of these .plist is the cause by working with smaller and smaller returning .plists then we will know the issue is outside of the your User's settings.

At this point you may be forced to do a Restore  Download  (Or ask and Apple Store to do it for you).

I have eliminated the issue to be system wide, since it will behave the exact same way in a new user that I created to test it out.

Since Re-installation mostly installs system files over the old ones, unless ofcourse there are some files that are retained in the process...

    It is weird.

In one of the logs I see this

    22/07/2013 15:17:48.032 UserEventAgent[140]: com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.usage.app_launched

    com.apple.message.signature: com.google.Chrome.helper

    com.apple.message.signature2: Normal

    com.apple.message.signature3: 28.0.1500.71 (1500.71)

    com.apple.message.summarize: YES

Now Apple have some framework items that refer to Mail items as "Messages".

Now I am not sure why a Google Browser helper is in the mix but these might refer to the Mail app rather than the Messages one.

However the log covers such a long period when the app is open but not being used it is hard to say what the Log is actually referring to.

In a Restore of the OS any third party app are left alone.

The Mac User Accounts are also untouched.

The OS and the Apple Apps that come with it are the bits that are overwritten.

    I managed to fix it.

    The resolution is pretty stupid.

I had disabled Indexing on Macintosn HD, due to the fact that it would randomly decide to re-index everything, and it would bring my system to a halt.

I removed Macinsoth HD from the Privacy settings of Spotlight to enable it to index the partition again... and... Voila!

Pretty weird that a re-installation, or clearance of the systempreferences.plist didnt bring that to it's defaults.

    Anyways...
