No problems finding the Firmware file at the location above using the Mountain Lion operating system. If you are still using Lion as your profile indicates, as I recall it worked the same way in this regard.

Not sure how locating the file will help, as I doubt that you will be able to edit or update the file manually once that you locate it.

I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.4 but cant locat the Firmware file. the reason for wanting the see the file is simply to establish if and when the airport had been updated but it looks like never if the file has not been created. But you are right what i realy want to do is just update it but I have clicked on everything in the airport utility and cant fin update anywhere if you can point me in the right direction that would be great or if you know anyother reason it keeps droping out

    Thanks Steve

Click anywhere on the open desktop so that the Finder menus are displayed at the top of the screen

Hold down the option key while you click on the Go menu

Click Library / Application Support / etc to locate the folder

If could not find an option to "show any hidden files", but you might look for one if you cannot locate the file

If a firmware update is available in AirPort Utility, you will normally be notified of that as soon as you open the application. If you want to manually check to see if any updates are available for your Mac, click the Apple icon at the upper left corner of the screen and then click Software Update

Thanks again for tryng to help, there are several file under apple in application suport but nothing about AirPort or firmware. I have been using AirPort for a year or so but I have never been notified of an update clicking on the apple icon says there are no updates. It is a real mistory had to reboot twice already today maybe I will just swich it off and use the ADSL router directly.
