Suddenly FaceTime is unable to connect. FaceTime starts and displays the "Connecting..." message. Within a few seconds the "Connection lost" message appears.

Nothing has changed in my WiFi environment. The problem occurs in other WiFi networks. All other network applications work normally (Messaging, eMail, Phone). I have turned FaceTime off/on several times. I have reset my network settings all to no avail. The Apple Store consultant suggested that I erase all content and settings and restore the phone from backup. I hope that I don't have to do this.

Did you make sure the contact you are using facetime with is not the one having issues?

Does this happen only with a specific contact?

If it happens with multiple contacts, it is still possible the issue is not directly related to you phone, honestly if you have done a complete backup & restore process, i highly doubt the issue is with your device, the only real troubleshooting i can think of is, since you are using an iPhone 4, obviously Wi-Fi is required for facetime, make sure that your other data services work consistantly and for extended periods of time while using Wi-Fi as this would eliminate the possibility of an Antenna hardware issue. If you can not sustain a continuous connection to a known reliable wi-fi network i would go to your local Apple Store, or contact Apple support.

--How many people are you experiencing this issue with? im very curious

Problem occurs with multiple (all) contacts who only have the problem when attempting to communicate with me or me with them.

I have not yet done the a complete backup/restore.

All other network applications work normally (Messaging, eMail, Phone, Safari, etc.). There is no WiFi antenna issue either on my home network or other WiFi networks where I have experienced the problem

I am having the exact same problem, anyone who knows how to solve this. Facetime has worked great for years, but last week it stopped working totally. It gives me the "FaceTime starts and displays the "Connecting..." message. Within a few seconds the "Connection lost" message appears." treatment. FaceTime works great using my MBP. on the same network, and i have tried all the apple support suggestions on how to trouble shoot FaceTime with no luck. thanks for any help

I am having the exact same issue starting today. I set-up my FaceTime with 2 apple IDs and an auto-connect script this past Sunday so that I could monitor my dog/home. This set-up has worked great until today (4 days later). I'm using a macBook Retina at home and my iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.3) for this, and both parties get stuck on the "connecting..." portion of the "handshake" all of a sudden.

Suddenly FaceTime is unable to connect. FaceTime starts and displays the "Connecting..." message. Within a few seconds the "Connection lost" message appears.
