Q: why wont be icloud back up?

my iphone hasnt backed up to icloud since april as it said i did not have enough storage. i have recently upgraded and bought more storage, hoping that the icloud would back up. However, this has not happened and it keeps saying back up in complete. Can anyone advise me as to what would be the best way to back up my icloud?

The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.

    Also check:

Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud as well.  Tap Show All Apps to get the complete list of apps and MB used for backup storage.

A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

If you have enough storage on both icloud and the device ...

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...

Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)

This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.
