Adding Cineform Codec To FCP

Hi,

I am in a film challenge this weekend and the required exporting Codec is Cineform.

I have downloaded the Gopro Cineform studio but it did not place the codec in final cut or compressor, which is what the producer of the challenge said it would do.

Does anyone know how to get the Cineform codec into FCP Studio?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Susan

Well, you shouldn't use it in FCP...you should edit ProRes and then export as Cineform. It won't just "show up" in FCP or as a preset in Compressor. What you have to do is apply a preset, like a ProRes one, and modify it, then save it as a new preset. The Cineform codec is listed, but you have to go into the ENCODER part of the INSPECTOR, then click on VIDEO: SETTINGS and find it there...like this:

So convert to ProRes, edit, export a Reference QT, or Send to Compressor...and compress to Cineform.

Lots.

Your editing timebase should not be "24." That's only for film, on film, to be played in a theater. It should be "23.98."

Your sequence Compressor should not be Cineform. As I said, you should be editing with FCP codecs, like ProRes, and convert to Cineform when you are done editing. Cineform offers no realtime performance in FCP.

Convert the footage to ProRes, edit ProRes, export and convert to Cineform when done editing.

No, that screen shot is of the SEQUENCE SETTINGS. Says right there..."Sequence Preset Editor." Don't use Cineform in FCP at all. Edit ProRes, use ProRes settings, and have your clips be ProRes.

Export a QUicktime movie...as ProRes.

Take that movie into Compressor. In THERE is where you convert it to Cineform. And again, 23.98. 24fps is if you are printing this onto film...only FILM is 24fps...perhaps some web video. If this is to play through some projector, it needs to be 23.98.

That's not the best way to export it. Export as a Quicktime Movie...self contained, do not recompress. As I have pictured below:

Nothing in the export window looks like that screen shot you have on the right. Those are SEQUENCE SETTINGS...I know this because I've used FCP for nearly a decade. Your sequence settings should not be Cineform, should not be 24fps. Don't turn your ProRes settings into Cineform...keep them ProRes. Then export a movie like I just suggested.

Then...go into COMPRESSOR (as I've stated twice before), and do the custom settings for Cineform there.
