Because if i check it in, it my be broken or stolen. The travelling bag for it is $700, I don't wanna spend that lol. To ship it with fedex or ups or a crazy amont of $ also, cause I'm travelling from the caribbean to the US
Keep in mind too, that if you show up with it, and are then forced to check it, it gets treated like any other checked baggage. So that means, for most airlines, a maximum damage claim of a few hundred dollars. You cannot add insurance or repackage the thing when standing at the counter. Basically, airlines treat all checked items the same and make no special accommodation for your valuable goods that you ridiculously expected to be able to carry onto the plane. Nor will you be compensated if you miss your flight because of a baggage issue of your own making.
Far better to properly package it, and ship it via a professional shipper who will also accommodate insuring it for a true replacement value, not some token or trivial amount.
I would rather ship this properly by UPS or FEDEX as you can properly insure it for the full amount of the computer is worth if something should happen to it, like it getting damaged or stolen in shipping.
I you have the original shipping box and packaging materials, use this for shipping, plus find out if you can get an another non-description computer shipping box that will hold the iMac box inside so no one can tell that you are shipping an iMac.
Also, as a insurance that your data won't get damaged in the hard drive during shipment, I would purchase a large storage, but small, portable external hard drive and partition it an install, both, a bootable clone of your OS X version plus copy all of your data to the external hard drive, purchase something to keep the data safe during a airline check-in and inspection and keep this small drive with you in a carry on bag.
I managed to take my imac on at the imac in a flight case successfully. The unit works fine, with no damage and I've been able to take more stuff because the flight case had extra space for padding (clothes).
see here if you wish 😉
OK guys just had a long talk with someone at the airline. they came and looked at the imac and said no. The carry on is not an option. Only thing I can do, is put it in the orginal box and check it in. Even with that, they not suppose to check in boxes at summer time. Thanks guys for your opinions and help.
Check with your airline however I think you're going to find it's too big. Why not either check it or ship it to the destination? IMHO trying to carry it as carry-on luggage is not very good idea.
If you show up with it and it won't fit in the bin or under the seat, they will not allow you to carry it and will force you to check it anyway. Better to ship and be sure it is properly packaged and insured.

It won't fit in overhead luggage, you are balking at using a $700 travel bag, check with UPS and get a quote on shipping to the island you are going to. Either that or use the original box and check it in as luggage when you travel. Carrying it on an airplane simply is not going to work.
Well, it won't fit in an overhead bin or under the seat, so you will never be allowed to carry it on. I would ship it and have it waiting for you.
Your welcome.
