Safari crashes my entire Mac, repeatedly.

I'm running 10.8.4. Safari is completely useless, as it crashes my entire MacPro, approximately 10 minutes after launching it. I'm using Safari, and suddenly my Mac dies as if I had unplugged it from the wall. It automatically restarts, etc. Following is the crash report. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The panic log indicates a fault in the drivers for the graphics processor (GPU.) Possible causes that have been reported include a failed GPU, overheating due to dust buildup or a failed cooling fan, and perhaps a bug that may be triggered by installing more than one NVIDIA graphics card in a 2009 Mac Pro and/or connecting more than one display.

You can try booting in safe mode to rule out the system modifications you've installed as the cause, but I doubt it will make any difference.

As you predicted, a safe mode reboot didn't help.

I appreciate and believe what you're saying about kernel panics, but if Safari is the only program on my Mac that causes a kernel panic, and there are plenty of other web browsers available, it's hard for me to view this as "not Safari's problem". Especially in the hopes that someone from Apple will see this post, and fix it.

galenfott--

You may have a bad graphics card. That would require taking it in.

But before that, I would take a hard look at these three things:

(are they up to date? are they still necessary? If not, you might consider deleting them to test as to whether they are possiblle culprits.

Sorry to hijack this discussion/thread.

3 to 4 days ago, i've been experiencing very similar issues to the OP.

Whenever i open safari, my macbook pro is unresponsive, very laggy, and not useable (It had got to the stage where i had to turn off my macbook, and turn back on).

However, when safari is closed (it took about 45 mins to open and close the program), and i use chrome instead, my macbook pro runs much more smoothly.

Does anyone have any info on what i can do to identify this problem? I'm not a tech wizkid here, so apologies if i dont understand any of the lingo!

Thanks

Safari crashes my entire Mac, repeatedly.
