Hey guys, I'm just about to receive my Macbook air 2013 11" and due to being a UK student got an awesome discount and a £70 giftcard... is there any essential and useful softwares i need to get for my mac as it comes with no preinstalled software?, just OS X...

Must have software is what you are interested in and what is important to you.
What you MUST have is an external HDD for backing up your data in case of MBA data loss.

Thanks OGELTHORPE, i've aready got and external HDD (500GB) which is why i decided not to upgrade the SSD in the Macbook air.. i was just wondering about temperature sensing software and word processors and stuff that is super useful to have..

Excellent regarding the backup HDD! An alternative or supplement to Time Machine is Carbon Copy Cloner. There is a charge but you have a boot drive in the case you need it;

For word processing you might consider Microsoft Word for Mac or look in the App Store for alternatives. You might try Libre (free) which has been recommended by others but I have never used it.
